My 93 year old father is in level 1 stage
of Alzheimer's. His ability to deal with many of life's
problems went out with the wind. His weird behavior, like
arousing my poor arthritic 88 yr old mother from a sound
sleep to tell her what his favorite song is, is a perfect
example of how Dad's mind works. I realize that
Alzheimer's gets worse, never better. I feel for my mother
because this cruel disease will sicken her even more, and
I have absolutely no patience so this illness is not good
for anyone in my family. I'm surprised at our doctor. He
has not mentioned to us that my dad should see a geriatric
doctor for evaluation. Dad is on Aricept, and all it does
is make him SLEEP. What do you think?

I think you are on the right track.
Have your father assessed by a geriatric physician or a
neurologist. And it wouldn't hurt for your mother to have
a complete assessment by a geriatric specialist, as well.
Not because she has cognitive problems, but because she is
elderly, and a geriatric physician may pick up things that
other less specialized physicians may miss...or may simply
attribute to old age.
