Handicapped Parking and Your Car

Printer-Friendly Format

Do you use your personal car to drive your senior or someone with a disability? Are you authorized to use a handicapped parking space when someone with a disability is riding with you?

You might be safer to request a hanging placard rather than a license plate, especially if you are a woman. A placard should not be visible except when you are parked in a disabled-only parking space. A license plate is always on the car, and can be a magnet for criminals who are cruising for someone driving alone who might be an easy target. If you do have a plackard, be sure to remove it and put it out of sight when you are not parked in a handicapped space.
