There always is. Floods,
blizzards, hurricanes and tornados, the odd earthquake or two,
and of course health emergencies. There's always something, and
it never happens when we're ready or it might not be an
emergency at all.
There are a few things we can all
do to be ready for whatever might come along. First, of course,
is to have a copy of your "What
You Really Need To Know" handy. Keep one with your emergency
pack so if you have to move quickly you won't forget it. It will
have all your immediately-necessary phone numbers, addresses and
information in one place. If you can't get back into your house
for a while you'll have the information you need to get by.
Read over the list of
emergency supplies and assemble your emergency pack in an
old duffle bag or anything with handles that's easy to carry.
Keep it in a closet near the door you would exit through should
you have to leave. Don't forget basic pet supplies, too.
Tape a Vial of Life to your refrigerator. This
is a clear bag or container that is clearly marked for emergency
personnel. In the container is the vital information a paramedic
or police officer will need to save a life in a home medical
emergency. Pick up a
free kit to make a Vial of Life and have one on refrigerator
in a matter of minutes. Make one for your car, too.
