Do you need to find an
assisted living home for someone you love? Did you know that most people
spend more time planning their annual vacation than they do finding an
assisted living residence for a family member?
Now before you go on
thinking "most people" are idiots who obviously don't love their
elders, think about the fact that many of these moves are made because of
a crisis. There really isn't the same amount of time to make this decision
as there is to plan a scheduled vacation.
So, since statistically
you're likely to be making choices under a certain amount of pressure it
certainly pays to know what you're looking at when you see it. And it
isn't always that easy to see past the pretty decorations to the truth of
the matter.
Are you completely confident
that you know just what to look for? Do you know how to spot the danger
signs?
Here's an information-packed
guide that walks you through everything you need to know, and everything you
didn't even know you needed to know. It's the first and only comprehensive guide
that gives families the simple tools they need to quickly weed out the worst and
target the best as they look for the right assisted living facility for a
senior.
The Insider's Guide To
Assisted Living tackles the all-important questions: How to recognize
hidden fees; How to separate great decor from true caring; How to dig out
the little things that make an elder's quality of life great - or not.
Everyone's most-asked questions about costs and planning are covered in
detail.
Real life stories from real
families illustrate how the smallest things can make or break an assisted
living experience.
| I just had to write to tell you
about an experience we just had. My father has Alzheimer's
Disease, and his care is getting to be too much for my mother, so
we have begun to look for a good place. We just went to see the
"top of the line" and I was impressed by the sales
girl's presentation. She said as an example of how dedicated their
staff is that they take everyone to the bathroom every two hours
around the clock, even through the night.
When we got home your book was
here, and I read right through it. Now I know why I felt funny and
remembered the bathroom comment. I don't think it told me how
dedicated they are - if it's true it told me that they don't
bother to individualize what they do for a person's needs.
Everyone is treated as if they can't go to the bathroom on their
own. That's demeaning. Makes me wonder if my Dad would be just one
of the "herd" there. If you hadn't
spelled it out I might not have figured out what bothered me about
that.

| If there is just one book
you should read before you start looking for the right assisted living
apartment this would be the one. Molly Shomer has spent almost 20 years
working with seniors and their families, and it shows. We eliminated two
places because of things we never would have thought of on our
own, and we found the right one in less than a week. Molly knows what
she's talking about when it comes to assisted living.

| I
wish you had been there to see the look on the manager's face when
I started asking about levels of care and staffing ratios. The
really neat thing was that they passed with flying colors and my
aunt is settling in pretty well.
